What a great weekend!

So many of our weekends are completely crazy, so it was great to have a really nice weekend!  It started off perfectly thanks to Kim Pritt.  Kim has posted about Myra’s Kitchen on Colon Road and we had an email chat about it last week.   After trying to get there almost every night last this past week, Jonathan and I finally had dinner there Friday (we hate that Phillip missed it — he loves to try new places!).  It was awesome!  I had the salisbury steak with smashed potatoes and fried corn on the cob (which was different, but delicious) and Jonathan had fried pork chops (2 of them and they were huge), smashed potatoes, and corn casserole (again different, but really tasty).  Myra, her husband, and the staff were all so nice and made us feel right at home.  That is definitely now on our “regular list” of where we eat out (although after a long talk Thursday night, we agreed to try to eat more at home — we’ll see how that goes).

Most of the day Friday and the whole morning Saturday were devoted to cake.  The two most interesting were a Transformers Optimus Prime cake (much more about that later) for the son of one of my childhood friends and a pool party cake complete with “waves” and goggles for another friend’s son’s 9th birthday.   Poor Jonathan spent the entire day again working on the new house (more about that in a later post)

Saturday ended with a trip to the movies, which was a real treat.  We probably haven’t actually been to see a movie in over 6 months (or maybe 9), so it was great to have the chance to go and it was amazing that we both stayed awake.  We saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall and it was very funny.  It definitely earned its R rating and I was actually shocked at certain parts.  I didn’t know so much could be shown in a “regular movie.”  Neither of us had seen many of the trailers, so we had no idea what we were in store for!  I definitely can’t let my mom go see it!!  Overall, it was a great date and the perfect way to end a Saturday.

This morning we visited Beaver Creek Baptist Church again, which is only about 5 minutes from our house, and we really enjoyed the service.  Everyone there is very welcoming.  In our desperate attempt to find a new church home, I think this may be it.

I’m now putting together hamburgers and beer-battered onion rings for dinner (remember we aren’t supposed to be eating out – sigh!), which I hope turns out great and will be the perfect ending for a great weekend!

My very first blog ever!!

Over the past few weeks I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the blogs by many of the Sanford Herald staff.  Through those blogs, I have discovered just how many people I know who are blogging and was amazed!!  I (like most women) have so many random uncategorized thoughts in a day!!  I thought this would be a great way to jot those down instead of forcing Jonathan to listen to each and every one of them!!
