About
I am Amy Burns and I live in Sanford, NC with my wonderful husband, Jonathan. When I married Jonathan almost two years ago, I also was given the privilege (and I mean that with the utmost sincerety) of forever participating in the lives of his two sons, Brandon (now 20) and Phillip (now 14 going on 40). A lot of people say they love their step-children as if they were their own, but in my case I really do mean it. I absoutely adore all three of “my boys.”
I have been a medical transcriptionist for 7 years and contract with several local docs. I am fortunate enough to work from home which allows me to run my other business. In 2000 after making a birthday cake for my nephew’s 1st birthday party, I discovered my love of cake decorating. I started making cakes for friends and family, and before I knew it, I was in business! At that time, Amy’s Creative Cakes gave me a creative outlet and was really still just a hobby.
In 2005, after meeting Jonathan and finding a whole new batch of confidence in my work and myself thanks to him, Amy’s Confection Company was born. I began selling my Carolina Cake Truffles – by far my signature chocolate – which my family and friends had enjoyed for years. Thanks to so many other generous Sanfordians, I was given a lot of opportunities in those first few years of business. There is a very long list of local business-people who helped me in any way they could to grow my business and to them I am eternally greatful!
Since then, I have developed several other chocolate lines including our ever-so-popular almond English toffee, all of which are in our retail shop in Shops of Steele Street in downtown Sanford.
Thanks for checking out my blog! Have a “sweet” day!

Just reading your blog makes me want to go buy toffee! My daughter has art class at Art Studio and so I am a frequent shopper at the Shops of Steele Street. I always feel bad for the other merchants because I hardly ever buy anything but Opal’s children’s bracelets and your toffee and covered marshmallows. Divine!

Hi, Amy — Boy, you really moved on getting your blog up and running – wasn’t it just a week or so since you were telling me that you were thinking about it???? I am so looking forward to reading what you have to say! I just hope your words don’t have as many calories as your wonderful goodies!!! Speaking about your goodies — i am planning a trip to visit my family in the next month or so and I’ve already been told that I can’t come without bringing a supply of your Carolina Cake Truffles! You are more popular with my family than I am!!!!! ;-(
See you soon…..Kim
